RESEARCH METHOD / PRACTICE GUIDE
Quantitative transaction analysis
Which transaction patterns are robust enough to guide product decisions?
A repeatable workflow using Plan → Conduct → Report. Adapt recruitment, timing and depth to the decision, participants and evidence available.
- 01
Plan
Specify the question, unit of analysis, population and time window. Document source coverage, inclusion rules and definitions. Identify missingness, duplicate records and potential selection effects before choosing comparisons.
- 02
Conduct
Validate and clean the data while retaining a reproducible record of transformations. Compare relevant segments and time periods, inspect outliers and test whether findings depend on exclusions or definitions. Pair patterns with domain context rather than assuming a cause.
- 03
Report
Report denominators, definitions, uncertainty and coverage limits alongside the result. Separate descriptive patterns from causal claims. Connect the result to a bounded product decision and provide the query or analysis steps another analyst can repeat.
